A mother, Arika, has been living with her son, Yugo, since her husband died. She worked hard all by herself, and her son grew up healthy and became a student who could aim for a top university. From now on, all the hard work will be rewarded, and once his son becomes a member of society, a happy life awaits him...that was supposed to be the case. In the summer before Yugo's graduation next year, the Tada family consults with his homeroom teacher, Oshima, about his career path. After a successful three-way meeting, Arika is left alone in the classroom and is told that there is a problem with Yugo's admission to higher education.
